10 Best Skincare Practices

By September 8, 2016No Comments

Beauty Woman with Perfect MakeupYour skin is the largest organ in your body, covering you from head to toe. It is quite literally the face you present to the world. Healthy skin leads to prettier hands, limbs, neck, décolletage and face … and everything else. If you want lovely skin, here are the best tricks to help you get it.

There are a multitude of ways to make skin look younger, fresher, and brighter—and they’re things you never would have guessed.

  1. Eat Right

Food is one of the best ways to protect your skin. Opt for lean proteins such as nuts, eggs, salmon and beans, and toss in a healthy dose of pomegranate seeds for a helpful antioxidant boost.

  1. Only Tint Naturally

Tinting your skin will help to even it out and conceal minor blemishes, but be careful with it. Choose a bronzer or a very light self-tanner … nothing darker, which will turn orange. And if you do use tinting products, make sure they’re medical grade. We suggest using Color Science makeup or tint.

  1. Spray Your Skin

Misting skin with purified water is all the rage. However, if you’re going to mist, spray with water AND with moisturizer … when you just do water, it dries on your skin and doesn’t help anything.

  1. Always, Always, Always Wear Sunblock

Skin cancer is prevalent. In fact, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “Between 40 and 50 percent of Americans who live to age 65 will have either basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma at least once.” Don’t let that be you. Wearing sunblock not only prevents disease, it helps skin stay tight, even and young. Be sure to wear only a medical grade sunblock. We suggest Elta MD sunscreen.

  1. Nip Stress in the Bud

Stress is terrible for skin, causing breakouts and eczema, rashes and dullness. Avoid it by practicing regular de-stressing routines, such as yoga, meditation, walking or engaging in a beloved hobby. Another excellent way to reduce stress is simply to get more sleep.

  1. Build Good Nighttime Habits

If you run out of steam by 10 p.m. and just can’t seem to find the energy to take off your makeup and wash your face, well, no one can blame you. Find a routine that works and do it early enough in the evening that you don’t lose steam before you do it.

I’m a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care, you really won’t need a lot of makeup.

  1. Cut the Sodium

This doesn’t just mean the sprinkle of salt on your chicken, either. Diet sodas, for instance, are often loaded with sodium. Learn to read labels and choose lower-sodium alternatives wherever possible.

  1. Use Mild Cleansers

Harsh cleansers can irritate you and cause breakouts, rashes and other complexion-destroying reactions. Use a mild cleanser and test it on a small part of your body before jumping into a routine. Be sure to go with quality on this one, we suggest a medical grade cleanser such as SkinCeuticals or Elta MD.

  1. Try Tea

Green and black tea both contain skin-revitalizing compounds in the form of antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids and a huge range of vitamins and nutrients. Drinking a cup a day will do a lot for your skin.

  1. Strength Train

Firming your skin is an excellent way to maintain your youthful appearance. Lifting weights keeps skin on your arms and legs, tummy, behind and even your neck and face elastic. Coolsculpting can be a great way to help with this as well.
