Skin Care Review | Rodan & Fields

Skin care choices in Utah.

How skin care options like Rodan + Fields compare to medical spa services.

I was chatting with a good friend the other day.  We had just finished waxing her eyebrows and the topic of good skin care came up.   She wanted to know if I had heard about Rodan + Fields because it was all over her Facebook feed.

“Is it any good?”, she asked.

At the time I knew very little about Rodan + Fields except that the same doctors who were behind Proactive (acne skin care line) formulated it as well.

This spiked by curiosity.  I would get back to her with more information once I did some research.

Here’s what I found out.

In 2002, the doctors established Rodan + Fields, a more upscale brand for aging skin with four distinct product lines.   Early Rodan + Fields, Estee Lauder bought the brand and sold it in department stores.  It wasn’t flying off the backlit shelves so in 2007 Rodan and Fields took an unusual step by buying back their company.  The doctors thought, Why not skip the department stores and just pay your friends?

So it began, Multi-level marketing!  It was to be distributed by your everyday woman.  Your neighbor up the street and she doesn’t have to be a skin care specialist to sell it.

During this time the economy was tanking.  People were losing their jobs like crazy.  Everyone needed a new way to make money.  At the same time social media was taking off.  The launch timeline was perfect.

A Rodan + Field consultant is more likely to use Facebook and Instagram, posting before-and-after skin selfies and offers for free products.  It has gotten into the hands of some well known celebrities who would post on Instagram with hashtags.  Soon everyone was talking about it.

But is the product any good?

I took out my Milady’s, Skin Care & Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary to look over the ingredients.  It’s a decent line.  Some of the components include hydroquinone, an active ingredient used for lightening the skin.  However, it doesn’t compare to medical grade product with scientific studies to back it.

Because Rodan + Fields can be distributed by anyone, your consultant most likely isn’t a skin care specialist.  Their focus is to lead with the business and not with the product.

Personally, I would prefer to purchase my skin care from someone who is knowledgeable about the ingredients and my overall skin care needs.  Not to mention what other services I could benefit from.  I call them Skin whisperers.

Cost

The average cost for a Rodan + Fields product line is about $250 and if you add additional specialty products you could be in $500.  That’s a pretty penny!  Rodan + Field consultants advertise a special membership pricing where you can get up to 20% off in savings if you have it shipped to your door every month.

If you’re needing product every month, you’re going through it too quickly.

Reviews

I spent some time reading the reviews on Google.  It was split down the middle on who loved Rodan + Fields and who was disappointed.  The biggest complaint was that the consultant who sold the product to them over promised and under delivered results.

Conclusion

Rodan + Fields is a multi-level marketing skin care product sold by your everyday woman, who may or may not have any prior expertise in skin.  Its price is comparable to medical grade product.

I would rather purchase my skin care products from a medical spa, dermatologist or plastic surgeon, a professional educated in skin.  Wouldn’t you?

Minimize the Chance of Botox Bruising and Heal Faster

Botox Bruising Prevention Chart Image

Utah Botox Professionals Providing Botox at the Spa Trouve MedSpa Salt Lake City

“Am I going to bruise?” Having been an injector assistant, I’ve been asked many questions regarding Botox. Here’s the scoop.

Although not common, bruising may occur after Botox injections.

Think of it this way.  Anytime a needle punctures the skin, your chances of rupturing a blood vessel are very likely.

Everyone’s anatomy is different and blood vessels are difficult to see.  At Spa Trouve, the injectors use very fine needles and special technique to minimize the risk of bruising.  However, if a blood vessel is ruptured, the blood slowly seeps into the surrounding area.

The blood has nowhere to go, leaving a purple or red mark behind.  This is what we know as a bruise.  After a day or two, the bruise will turn the skin black and blue, as the damage to the tissue surrounding the broken blood vessels becomes more apparent. Over time, the body re-absorbs the blood, which makes the bruise turn a yellowish-green color.

Slowly the body heals itself and the skin returns to its normal color.

1) HOW TO PREVENT A BRUISE FROM BOTOX

10-12 Days Prior – Avoid:

Aspirin, St. John’s wort, Omega 3 or fish oil supplements, high doses of vitamin E, anti-inflammatories e.g. Ibuprofen, Excedrin, Aleve, Advil, Motrin, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng

7-10 Days Prior – Start:

Arnica Montana orally in tablet form, eating pineapple (pineapple has bromelin enzymes, which enables the body to clear metabolic waste & heal itself faster)

2-3 Days Prior – Avoid:

Alcohol

DAY OF TREATMENT

Bruising can start to appear within 0-4 hours after treatment.

0-4 Hours After – Avoid

Strenuous activity

2) IF YOU BRUISE: HOW TO HEAL IT

  1.     Apply a cold compress to the bruised areas on and off for the first 24 hours.
  2.     Continue taking Arnica Montana orally in tablet form for 7-10 days.
  3.     Continue eating pineapple.
  4.     Apply Arnica Montana cream topically to the bruised areas for 7-10 days.
  5.     As necessary, cover up bruises with Spa Trouve’s high quality mineral makeup, ColoreScience.

Take note:

If you’re bruiser, try to avoid your Botox treatment while on your menstrual cycle!  Or just know that you may be more sensitive during this time.

If you plan well for bruising and follow good post-care, there will be little to no downtime.   Plus a little bit of cover up never hurt anyone!

Botox and Dermal Fillers – What to Expect at Our MedSpa

True or False: Botox and Fillers Can Be Used in the Same Way

Picture of Woman and Botox Lips Spa Trouve

Utah Botox Professionals Providing Botox at the Spa Trouve MedSpa Salt Lake City

A common misconception about Botox in Utah County, is that Botox and fillers are used in the same way. That is not the case!

While both products lessen the appearance of wrinkles, they work very differently.

I once had a friend tell me that she wanted to get her lips “Botoxed.” I let her know that what she wanted was a dermal filler to plump up her lips, such as Juvederm. Surprisingly, her mistake is not an uncommon one. Many people, who have come to our medical spa in UT County, ask the same question. But you would definitely NOT want to inject Botox in the lips.

And I will tell you why!

Botox is a neurotoxin that actually relaxes the muscles that create wrinkles. It smoothes those wrinkles that are caused by the active muscles in your face. Botox is used in the forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows, and lasts around 3-4 months.

So, if you were to use Botox in the lips, you would not be able to move your mouth like you normally do. You would probably look like you do after a visit to the dentist…but for about 3- 4 months, which is probably not the look you are going for.

That’s why there are dermal fillers.

Dermal Fillers work in a much different way. As opposed to Botox, you would use a Dermal Filler, such as Juvederm or Restylane, to actually fill a line or wrinkle. Generally, fillers are used for the lower half of the face. They can be used to fill the cheeks, smile lines, lips, and vertical lip lines. Occasionally, fillers are used for very deep set lines in the forehead, in conjunction with Botox. And the product lasts much longer than Botox, around 9 months to a year.

So while the two products are used for similar things, looking younger and getting rid of wrinkles, they work in very different ways.

There are many medical spas that provide Botox in UT County. The Botox Utah prices and Juvederm Utah prices vary, but here at Spa Trouve we provide ourselves in offering the best Utah spa deals and affordable membership programs possible! It’s All About the Lips!

Unfortunately, we weren’t all blessed with naturally luscious lips like Angelina Jolie. And those of us who weren’t have had to find our own solutions.

How many of you out there have gone to medical spas in Utah, and gotten lip plumping products, or tried doing your lip liner/lipstick to make your lips looks bigger? Sadly, I have tried these tricks, and either ended up looking like a clown, or not noticing a difference.

So what’s a girl to do?!

Have you ever considered Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm?

Juvederm is a cosmetic Dermal Filler, which is an injectable gel that is incredibly effective in attaining plumper lips. It’s a hyaluronic acid product, which is a substance that is naturally found in the human body. Juvederm is ideal for soft tissue augmentation, such as the cheeks, smiles lines, and of course, the lips.

I know what you’re all thinking. You would love to have luscious lips, but you’re imaging one of the women on Housewives of Beverly Hills, with big, giant, duck-like lips. I’m here to tell you, that is an absolute misconception.

Obviously, there are people out there who overfill their lips. And believe me; we think they look ridiculous too! But did you know that you can get a lip augmentation and actually have it look plump, beautiful, and very natural?

I had my lips done using Juvederm, and while I was terrified they were going to look overfilled, the result was so subtle, most of my friends and family didn’t even notice. And I was left with fuller, more beautiful lips.

Now I can finally wear lipstick and actually have full lips to put it on!

So how does it work?

Juvederm is injected into the lips with a fine needle, by one of our license Medical Professionals. The product has lidocaine in it, which helps reduce pain. It takes around 20-30 minutes at our Medical Spa in Orem, and the down-time is generally not too long. You will see the beautiful results after just one week.

Plus, if you end up not liking your results (which I highly doubt you will), you can have it reversed by injecting Hyaluronidase.

If you are looking for fuller, more pouty, luscious lips, Restylane or Juvederm is the perfect solution! Plus, right now we are offering $100 instant rebate. Now is the time to get those lips you have always wanted! Give us a call at Spa Trouve at 801.229.2229 . We have some of the best Juvederm Utah prices, and to set up your free consultation today!

How Medical Cosmetology Procedures Can Enhance your Natural Beauty

How Medical Cosmetology Procedures Can Enhance your Natural Beauty

Throughout history, humans have struggled to enhance their appearance but in a way that makes the enhancements seem natural. Today’s cosmetology procedures enhance your natural beauty with such success that you will not need to pile on the cosmetics.

Cosmetics have been around for at least two million years, with the use of face and body paints dating as far back as the Paleolithic era. People began applying rouges and powders during the Shang and Zhou dynasty in about 1600–1050 B.C. It became popular to discuss cosmetics during China’s Spring and Autumn dynasties and, over time, cosmetology and traditional Chinese medicine began to fuse together as healers began to understand the mental health benefits of looking good.

In modern life, it is not enough to slather on some makeup – cosmetics must enhance the wearer’s natural beauty. In fact, Americans were reluctant to alter their looks in any way that created an unnatural look until quite recently. Although hair dyes have been around for centuries, only models, actresses and “fast women” colored their hair until the 1950s and ‘60s, when Clairol introduced their famous hair dye campaign slogan, “Does she or doesn’t she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure.”

This old ad revolutionized cosmetics in the United States in two very important ways. First, it made it okay for women to dye their hair. Second, saying that Clairol was so good that only professionals could tell the difference created a lasting trend towards cosmetology products and procedures that enhance natural beauty rather than just covering it up.

Medical Cosmetology Procedures that Improve Upon Nature

Medical cosmetology can actually enhance your natural beauty merely by perfecting what nature has already given you. Smooth, flawless skin does not need as much makeup to look healthy, for example, and long-term hair removal reduces the need for shaving with a razor or using harmful chemicals on your skin.

Laser hair removal leaves the skin on your face and your body looking smooth, whereas shaving and plucking leave behind unattractive bumps and acne-like breakouts. Chemical hair removers, in comparison, are tough on your skin and do nothing to prevent hair from growing back darker and more noticeable than ever before. After repeated laser hair removal treatments, however, hair grows back finer and lighter in color. Waxing is also infinitely better than plucking, as it removes unwanted hair for up to eight weeks.

Skin care procedures vastly improve upon nature by making your skin so smooth and attractive, you will not need makeup! Chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and laser skin tightening removes tired old skin cells and promotes the development of fresh, healthy looking skin. Permanent makeup eliminates the need for any makeup at all.

Botox enhances your natural beauty by stopping the natural aging process it its tracks, so you will not need to cover your wrinkles with makeup or use messy creams to stay young looking.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) “Vampire Facials” are the ultimate in enhancing natural beauty with what you already have inside you. The PRP procedure uses plasma and platelets collected from your own body to reduce pigment, reduce stretch marks, and treat wrinkles and light scarring, saving you from having to wear a ton of makeup to hide these flaws.

Today’s cosmetology procedures can enhance your natural beauty so well, people will be saying “Does she or doesn’t she? Only her cosmetologist knows for sure.”

Why Microblading Isn’t Just a Fad

trouve-tattoo-eyebrows

Bold, defined brows are a hot trend, led by Instagram superstars like Demi Lovato and Cara Delevingne. Unfortunately, you may not be blessed with the full, dark hair you need to pull this look off. You can make this youthful, vibrant trend come to life with a fistful of powders, gels, and brushes. However, you may end up like Alyssa Coscarelli: “Before I knew it, I was spending a whole 10 to 15 minutes on my brow routine every morning, and when you’re not a morning person, this gets old fast.”

What about a long-term, no-fuss solution? What about eyebrow tattoos? Or even better…the newer, less invasive process of microblading?

Permanent makeup has come a long way. Long gone are the days of cartoonish, overdrawn lips and brows that look like they were applied with a black marker. Modern dyes come in a variety of flattering colors and safe formulations, and the application techniques employed in medspas are subtle and flattering with quick recovery times.

Lately, there’s been buzz about a new technique, sometimes called ‘eyebrow embroidery’ or ‘microblading.’ This is similar to eyebrow tattooing, but is much safer and less invasive…as the ink only enters the outermost layer of skin, also called the epidermal layer. Meanwhile true eyebrow tattooing is injected further into the dermis, or inner layer of skin. You will be so pleased with the gorgeous, natural look this process gives you. So I’m sure you’re wondering, “How is it done?”

Eyebrow Embroidery, Step by Step:
First, you need to locate a professional who is trained in this technique and will do it in a safe, sterile manner. You may have excellent results with a specialist at a medspa. The browologist will look at the ideal shape of your brows, and may mark the outline or fill them in with removable marker. Don’t worry, you won’t look like this forever!
Next, numbing cream will be applied to your skin. You may find yourself sitting for a while, to give the cream time to do its work. Meanwhile, the browologist will match their inks to your brow hair’s natural color. For best results, they may do a custom blend of dyes.
Once your face is numb, they will begin the blading process. This part of the procedure is faster than you may think, sometimes taking just ten minutes! You may feel pressure or a slight scratching sensation.
You can expect a healing time of 1-2 weeks. Your browologist will explain how to care for your skin during and after the procedure.

The Results:
“I held the mirror close to my face in disbelief at what I was seeing. I finally had the brows I always wanted.”
– Alyssa Coscarelli

Eyebrow tattoo fans like Alyssa have raved about the natural results of this technique. Eyebrow embroidery uses fine lines that mimic your own eyebrow hairs and follow the curves of your face. Your brows will look fabulously, naturally thicker.

This semipermanent tattoo is designed to last at least a year. It will fade over time but you can keep the brows looking fabulous for longer by wearing sunscreen and protecting your skin. You can also schedule a brow touchup.
