Laser Hair Removal

By April 25, 2017October 9th, 2017No Comments

It’s that time of year, when the weather starts warming up and everyone is looking forward to being out in the sun.

Shorts, tank tops and sandals are the trend. For ladies, this also means more frequent shaving or waxing is a must. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely despise having to shave and am definitely not a fan of the grow-it-out-for-three-weeks to finally have it-waxed method.

But what else can I do??

Laser Hair Removal! Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser – an intense, pulsating beam of light – to remove unwanted hair. The powerful heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth. Laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair.

Is the hair loss permanent?

Although laser hair removal effectively slows hair growth, it doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. It is permanent hair reduction, and a large reduction at that. Typically it takes multiple laser hair removal treatments to provide an extended hair-free period. Periodic maintenance treatments might be needed as well.

Does it really work?

Ladies and Gents I am pleased to let you know that IT REALLY WORKS! Personally, I am not your ideal candidate. I am a dark-haired Filipino woman. I have received the recommended treatments for my skin type, which is 12-14 treatments of full body laser hair removal, followed by the occasional one or two touch each year. It has been ten years since I completed my initial treatments. I have had two babies during this time frame who are now a five-year-old son and an eight-month-old daughter. I was told that I would experience some hair growth during my pregnancies and possibly after but this was not the case. Randomly, I’ll get a hair here and there as an indication that I could go in for a laser hair removal touch up, but there are so few hairs that it’s a breeze to shave.

Can I still get laser hair removal once I’ve had sun exposure?

During your consultation at Spa Trouve, you will be advise not to tan in between your laser hair removal treatments. But let’s get real, most of us are going to get sun because…well, vitamin D feels good on our skin. So to answer the question, “Can I still be treated once I’ve had sun exposure?” the answer is YES! Yes, with a couple of precautions: One, wear sunscreen and do not get sunburned. Two, make sure your sun exposures are at least one week before and after your laser treatment. There is no need to take a break from your laser hair removal treatments. Your esthetician will adjust the laser energy to avoid any complications and there’s a slight chance you might need additional treatments for your desired amount of hair reduction. But, let’s enjoy the summer!

What type of laser does Spa Trouve use for laser hair removal?

At Spa Trouve, we use two different types of laser technologies that treat all skin types and all hair colors with the exception of blonde and red (sorry that group, hopefully one day). The 755nm Alexandrite laser used at Spa Trouve targets pigment and is predominantly best for clients who have light skin with dark hair. The 1064Nd Yag laser targets the blood supply to the hair follicle and is ideal for clients with a darker complexion and dark hair.
